Zombification Medication

The visit to the local elementary school went really great; however, within four days my throat was sore and then my nose began to run and that was topped off with an annoying cough.  Ah, the joys of elementary school germs.  It was worth it though!  I got a ton of hugs and handshakes.  Several of the students told me that they had read my books multiple times!  I was wondering if I should hire them as editors.  Anyway, back to the lovely cold virus that I have been tortured with for the past week…I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced the “Nyquil hangover” before? After several nights of trying to sleep by holding a tissue under my nose because it wouldn’t stop running, I had my sweet hubby go to CVS and pick up some Nyquil Cold & Flu tablets.  On Thursday night, I swallowed two of them which was the correct dosage by the way and told my husband that I didn’t think they were going to work since I could not taste that familiar strong cough medicine flavor.  He smiled and said, “Just sit down and watch some tv with me.”  About twenty minutes later, he led me to the bed and pulled the cover up…I think.  I woke up at 7:30 the next morning, which for those of you who know me know that means that I overslept my usual waking time by over an hour.  I realized that my nose was not running and I was very impressed with the full night’s sleep I had enjoyed.  It wasn’t over though.  I felt kind of foggy and so I had a cup of coffee and that didn’t seem to make a difference.  I took a shower and that didn’t help.  I had another cup of coffee and tried to do a few jumping jacks.  Nope, I was a walking zombie all day long. I swam through a Teen Comic Club meeting with Bekah and luckily Brian was driving us because I knew I shouldn’t be operating heavy machinery.  I finally went to bed early and woke up at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning.  The sedative had finally worn off in the middle of the night and guess who wasn’t going back to sleep? Yup.  So tonight I will be going to bed early.  I think I survived the cold virus though but I won’t be taking Nyquil again for a while. Oh, who am I kidding? I can only take so much nose running and coughing before I will be like, “Honey, bring me the zombification medication!”

  • Hope you get well soon! Nyquil must be a family thing with you and your cousin I am married to! LOL! I run from it!

Thank you and I am feeling better. All I have left is a bit of the sniffles now. It must be a family thing because that stuff sure does work but I see it as a last resort!

  • You must be super-sensitive to that particular medicine. Ruben uses it all the time, and it doesn’t affect him like that. I find that a salt water gargle and sinus drench is a good preventive when I have been exposed to germs.

It’s probably just some people and I’m just one of the lucky ones. lol I did Google it and found that there are other people who have the same reaction so at least I’m not alone! I use a salt water gargle as well but I’m not brave enough to put water up my nose. Water. Up. Nose. Drown. Those words all go together in my universe. lol

  • Trade-offs seem to be inevitable!
